Four Interview on Aesthetics

6.99

As a leading scholar on the work of the German philosopher Immanuel Kant, our opening interview with Paul Guyer provides an introduction to questions of aesthetics, discussing imagination, aesthetic experience and the relationship between art and morality. In line with Guyer’s work, it is impossible to reduce the unique voice of Apichatpong Weerasethakul to a single factor, a director especially gifted in perceiving the natural and otherworldly, while communicating his ideas with exceptional originality. The third interview in this collection is with the philosopher and jazz saxophonist Andrew Bowie, who presents his account of art as a distinct realm of sense-making that develops and unfolds historically. Similar to Bowie’s approach, artist Susan Philipsz continuously questions the ethical and political value of art, exhibiting this deep concern through music and her own voice.
